Peter Hunt

Peter is a former Auckland Half Marathoner. He's aiming to complete the K2 – a gruelling cycle race – and the Auckland Half Marathon in the same weekend.

Peter HuntThere's a real buzz in the air about the marathon as it gets closer – people I talk to are getting really excited. Quite a few people I've spoken to have heard about the ChildFund Challenge already – they say 'oh yeah, Run for Bricks'. I've also spoken to other ChildFund Challengers who are enthused about doing something a bit different.

My fundraising is going well, although it did stall for a while because I just wasn't organised enough. A friend asked me how I was doing and I had to say not very well. That prompted me to send out another email asking for sponsors. In one night with one email I quadrupled my fundraising tally. Clearly, a little effort can yield exceptional results.

Now that spring is in the air and the mornings are getting lighter, it's easier to train. The past few weeks saw my training put on hold while I recovered from a bout of flu. It really highlighted for me the importance of listening to your body. If you're just training to make up miles, instead of focusing on what you're trying to achieve, you'll end up losing out in the long run.

Whether I'm training or fundraising, the key for me is focusing on the goal and doing what it takes to get there.
